At our last house, storage was at a premium. We made a significant downsize to take advantage of a rare, gorgeous wooded lot with a creek and waterfall (in Texas!), and it was taking a lot of creativity to sort out where and how to put things in our new home. We also wanted to ensure that our nice collection of heirloom dishes wasn’t just stashed in a box in the garage… which is where it was until we could squeeze some more space out of our place. As Fall has descended upon us these past few weeks, beautiful autumn wreaths are everywhere to spruce up homes for the season. However, my taste is pretty simple, and even on the most basic of wreaths, I have not been admiring the price tags starting around $40 and up – and that’s even at my favorite discount stores. 14 years ago this night, I lit prayer candles on my street corner in Arlington, Virginia, mere blocks from the Pentagon, in vigil for the memory of those lost in the tragic events of 9/11. Earlier that day, after being wakened by the sound of a plane immediately overhead followed by quakes in the ground that shook the building and left cracks in my walls, I rushed outside to witness a thundering plume of smoke that lasted for hours and hours. When I first heard about making your own coffee creamer (beyond plain ol’ half and half ;), I figured it would be complicated and possibly time-consuming. Turns out, it is literally one of the quickest, easiest things you can make at home – and one of the healthiest switches from an otherwise highly processed, preservative-laden product. Not to mention, the homemade version is just SUPER delicious!!! You’ll never go back to that store stuff once you try this.
